“Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much” – Helen Keller
We humans are tribal beings, right down to the very core of each and every one of us. Being a part of a community (or even multiple communities) not only keeps us connected, but also inspires us to take steps to better our lives and the lives of others. Community really is integral and essential to our personal wellbeing.
“Connection is why we’re here; it is what gives purpose and meaning to our lives.” – Brene Brown
Just this weekend, I attended the inaugural Melbourne event hosted by The Launch Gals and I am so glad to have found this community of like-minded women who are so ready to share their stories and support each other! Every single individual who was there had their own story, and every single story that was shared resonated in one way or another.
What I learnt is that it is so important to be creating and forming your own community/communities, especially in this biz world. Not only is it going to enrich your own journey in your own business, it is also going to teach you so much about what other people do with their passions. I am such a firm believer in how we can all learn from each other, no matter what stage you are in your life, and this weekend certainly cemented that for me, being in a room full of other ladies who have established businesses in all different fields.
“I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.” – Brene Brown
There is so much to learn about the importance of building your tribe and this is certainly just the start of my learning journey. We all start somewhere, don’t we! So, here are my top 3 learnings of building one’s community:
1) Your community is going to be your biggest support system!
There are going to be days when the goals that you’ve set yourself just seem impossible to achieve. We are our own biggest enemies, and it is your community that is going to believe in you and push you through.
2) Your community is going to keep you accountable and push you to your limits.
Working alone in a small business is not easy! I never thought much of it but boy, is it hard. It’s often too easy to throw your hands in the air and give up when things get a little hard. When you are surrounded by like-minded people who are working towards a similar goal as you are, you will feel a thousand times more motivated and a million times more inspired – two of the things that will push you just that bit further than if you were to do it on your own.
3) Your community is going to help inspire you with new ideas.
By building up a community of people who may come from all walks of life, with their own individual stories, you can gain so much wisdom from all the different experiences in your tribe. Having a diverse pool of perspectives and views mean that there are going to be so many different ways to approach the same problem and this is just going to fuel new ideas and solutions to problems!
Building my community is definitely going to be a huge focus of mine in the coming months, especially in building up this little biz. As they say, ‘many hands make light work’. What do you believe in? What do you value? What is your story?
Come join me in this journey of self-discovery and let’s walk through life together having each other’s backs!
